The American Medical Convoy “Alliance for a Smile” Treats and Performs Surgeries for 70 Children with Cleft Lip at Sohag University Hospital

The Department of Plastic Surgery at Faculty of Medicine at Sohag University hosted the “Alliance for Smile” American medical convoy to treat children with cleft palate, cleft lip, and speech difficulties.

The convoy was attended by a comprehensive American medical team of plastic surgeons, dentists, pediatricians, and anesthesiologists, in addition to a nursing staff specializing in operations and recovery.

Dr. Hassan Al-Nomany, President of the University, emphasized that hosting this convoy falls within the framework of the University’s commitment to providing specialized medical services to the community.

He noted that cooperation with international medical teams enhances the efficiency of medical services provided at the University Hospital and provides opportunities for doctors to exchange expertise.

From his part, Dr. Magdy El-Qady, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, explained that the convoy provided services to more than 50 children, performing 20 successful surgeries to treat cleft palates and cleft lip, correct speech problems, and provide dental cleanings and fillings for affected children.

Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Executive Director of University Hospitals, stated that the convoy’s activities continued for 10 days, emphasizing that the hospital is keen to host such specialized convoys, which contribute to improving the quality of healthcare provided to children, particularly in subspecialties such as plastic surgery.
