This is thanks to the unit’s possession of the most modern catheterization device .
He explained that the university administration is currently seeking to expand the unit’s services through a plan to increase the number of intensive care beds from 31 to 100, coinciding with the opening of the Specialized Surgery Hospital, to keep pace with the growing demand for these vital services.
Dr. Magdy El-Qady, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that the faculty is committed to encouraging scientific research and organizing specialized scientific events that open up avenues for cooperation between universities and various hospitals, positively impacting the level of medical services provided within the university’s hospitals.
Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Hamdoun noted that the scientific day highlighted the latest scientific advances in the field of cerebral catheterization, including arterial stents, the treatment of aneurysms with coils, and the injection of cerebral hemangiomas.
He explained that these techniques open new horizons for treating complex cases that previously represented a major challenge.
From his part, Dr. Ahmed El-Bassiouni expressed his pleasure at participating in the scientific day’s activities, noting that this was his second visit to the Stroke Unit at Sohag University Hospital, during which he witnessed the significant development the unit has witnessed in a short period, both in terms of medical equipment and the quality of services provided.
He emphasized that what is being provided within the unit represents a true achievement to be credited to the university and to those responsible for developing the medical sector within it.
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Moneim, Head of Neurology Department, explained that the scientific day is a distinguished platform for exchanging expertise between doctors and specialists in the field of stroke treatment. It has evolved to currently include 31 intensive care beds. The unit has successfully treated 183 cases using clot-dissolving injections, reflecting the level of progress it has achieved. It is worth noting that a medical team from the Department of Neurology conducted a study on the sidelines of the scientific day, represented by Dr. Ahmed Al-Basyouni, Professor of Neurology and Cerebral Catheterization at Ain Shams University, and Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Hamdoun, Professor of Neurology and Cerebral Catheterization at Sohag University, performing cerebral artery dilation and stenting for two cases in the Catheterization Unit at the New University Hospital.
