Dr. Hassan El-Nomany, President of Sohag University, received the certificate of first position among Egyptian and African universities in the GreenMetric International Ranking of Sustainable Universities for the year 2024, wishing for more successive achievements and successes in the field of international rankings.
The university president expressed his pride in this unprecedented distinction, as the university won the first position among Egyptian and African universities, extending his thanks to the team work that made strenuous efforts in preparing and arranging the files required for this ranking, so that the university jumped 65 global positions to come in 255th place out of 1477 universities from 95 countries.
Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, congratulated the university administration on this distinguished achievement, explaining that the university had, during the past period, developed an intensive plan to apply the sustainable development goals to all its activities, in implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
Dr. Hamdy Hassanein, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and General Coordinator of the University’s file for the international ranking, explained that the ranking was based on 6 basic criteria: facilities and infrastructure, energy and climate change, water management, waste management, sustainable transportation, education and scientific research. He added that each criterion includes several indicators, exceeding 50 indicators, including a list of all the university’s activities and clarifying the sustainable practices that have been implemented in each of them.
