Dr. Hassan El-Nomany, President of Sohag University, participated in completing the implementation of the “100 Million Trees” presidential initiative, by planting a number of fruit trees at the university’s new headquarters. This was within the framework of the activities of the third international environmental conference organized by the university under the title “Green Transition and Environmental Artificial Intelligence Applications.”
The event was attended by Dr. Abdel Nasser Yassin, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Accountant Ashraf El-Qady, Secretary-General of the University, Dr. Sabah Saber, Conference Rapporteur, and Dr. Yasser Abdel Fattah, Assistant Secretary-General.
Dr. Hassan Al-Nomany emphasized that the university attaches great importance to preserving the environment and increasing green spaces, believing in the importance of sustainable and environmentally friendly practices as a fundamental pillar of its strategy to transform into a green university.
This is in line with the state’s directives and the political leadership’s support for a green economy.
He praised the quality of the fig trees being cultivated and directed the expansion of the remaining vacant areas, a move the university administration will support in the coming period.
Dr. Khaled Omran explained that the effectiveness of afforestation aims to enhance vegetation cover as an effective means of combating climate change and improving air quality, in addition to its role in absorbing harmful gases, protecting soil, reducing dust storms, and preserving biodiversity.
