Sohag University, in cooperation with the National Council for disabled, organized a training course on teaching the basics of sign language and detecting learning difficulties for the staff members, students and service providers.
The course was held over 3 days in the Masar Hall at the old university headquarters, in the presence of Dr. Lamia Abu Zeid, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, and Dr. Yasmine Matar.

Dr. Hassan El-Nomany, President of the University, said that the training program comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership, headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, on the necessity of supporting and empowering people of determination, and achieving justice and comprehensive societal integration for this important segment of society, and also in activation of the initiative to spread societal awareness of the issue of disability in the Egyptian universities, which was launched by the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
with the aim of promoting the concept of integration and social solidarity, and providing practical and moral support to disabled.
From his part, Dr. Abdel Nasser Youssef, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, explained that the Egyptian government has paid great attention to the issue of disabled, and has taken many measures and decisions that guarantee disabled obtain their full rights.
The university, for its part, has launched several community initiatives.
It has implemented numerous training programs that contribute to improving the lives of this group, providing educational and employment opportunities, and harnessing their potential, developing it, and investing it for the benefit of society. Dr. Mohamed Kamal, General Coordinator of Student Activities, noted that the course on basic sign language includes several lectures, the most important of which is a lecture on early detection methods and the etiquette of dealing with people with disabilities.
It will be presented by Dr. Yasmine Matar, and another lecture on the basics of using sign language will be presented by language trainer Islam Badr El-Din. Another lecture will be titled “Awareness of Egyptian Law on Disability,” presented by Mohamed Mokhtar, a trainer at the National Council for disabled.
