El-Zohri1<br \/>; Khairy Sayed2<br \/>; Adel Ahmed 2<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">1 Faculty of technology and Education, Sohag University, Sohag, Egypt.<br \/>2 Faculty of Engineering, Sohag University, Sohag, Egypt.<br \/>3 Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt.<br \/>ABSTRACT<br \/>In this paper, a test bench was developed for<br \/>teaching purposes to enhance power electronics and<br \/>real time control of Brushless DC motor<br \/>comprehensively, particularly with regard to PWM<br \/>techniques, signal generation and speed control<br \/>theoretically and experimentally using<br \/>Matlab\/Simulink environment, assisted with DSP<br \/>programming kit in practice. First a model was<br \/>developed under Matlab\/Simulink. The control<br \/>strategies implemented involve two PWM techniques,<br \/>namely soft and hard switching. The system is built in<br \/>a way that the students are able to carry out modeling<br \/>and confirm their results through the testing bench<br \/>using these techniques. The used approach has been<br \/>effective in the way that has led to the student<br \/>satisfaction. It has shown their learning has been<br \/>improved with regard to the drive control applications<br \/>either as a variable speed drive or in embedded<br \/>systems. Brushless direct current (BLDC) motors are<br \/>mostly preferred for dynamic applications such as<br \/>automotive industries, pumping industries. Moreover,<br \/>it is predicted that by 2030, BLDC motors will<br \/>become mainstream of power transmission in<br \/>industries replacing traditional motors. A Brushless<br \/>DC motor electric vehicle is the best solution for green<br \/>transportation due to their high efficiency and zero<br \/>greenhouse gas emissions. The increased reliability,<br \/>flexibility, high efficiency, longer life, reduced<br \/>friction, faster rate of voltage and current and<br \/>precision voltage and current applied to field coils<br \/>could be regarded as the most important advantages<br \/>of (BLDC) motors.<br \/>Keywords: BLDC Motor, Current Control, Pulse<br \/>Width Modulation, motor drive, Speed Control of<br \/>BLDC Motors.<br \/>1. INTRODUCTION<br \/>The world is stepping forward toward the<br \/>development of technologies to derive energy from<br \/>sustainable resources and the technologists are<br \/>thriving hard to mitigate the challenges such as<br \/>shortage of fuels and clean\/renewable energy due to<br \/>interference, acoustic noise, torque ripple, and flux<br \/>ripple should be controlled. Thus, the controlling<br \/>techniques are discussed in this paper. Since BLDC<br \/>motors are used costs for energy, global warming, and<br \/>various environmental issues [1]. We will focus<br \/>on these storage technologies which form the core of<br \/>the technological innovations needed to design and<br \/>develop renewable energy. We have highlighted the<br \/>salient features of each of these technologies and<br \/>compared them in terms of their power\/energy<br \/>density, and cost to meet the global challenges, and<br \/>their ability to manage the scarcity of existing<br \/>resources and competitiveness in meeting<br \/>sustainability standards [2].<br \/>Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) has been widely used<br \/>in industrial automation, household appliances,<br \/>automotive electronics, aerospace and other fields due<br \/>to its simple structure, high output torque, long<br \/>lifetime and high efficiency. However, the key to its<br \/>control process is how to get the accurate information<br \/>of rotor position and speed [3]. Some achievements<br \/>have been made in the research of non-position<br \/>control technology of brushless DC motor after<br \/>decades of research by scholars at home and abroad.<br \/>The counter electromotive force method is the most<br \/>mature method in application at present, and it can<br \/>obtain commutation information at a time delay of<br \/>300 by detecting the counter electromotive force<br \/>signal extracted from the terminal voltage of the<br \/>motor.
